BC Association for Living Mindfully - Mindfulness Classes
Mental Health - Adult & Senior and Pain Management
Provided by British Columbia Association for Living Mindfully (BCALM)
ART OF LIVING MINDFULLY classes: Mindfulness-based strategies are useful in navigating stress and in recognizing patterns of thought, speech and behaviour that may be contributing to stress and suffering. Home meditation practice is a major component of this course to embody concepts learned in class and then apply them to life. Exercises focusing upon mindfulness and cognitive behavioural strategies complement the meditation practice and allow participants to further explore key concepts of inquiry, acceptance, non-attachment, compassion, loving-kindness and non-judgement.
Cost: To support this programs sustainability, a $60 administrative fee is requested. IN ADDITION, to encourage attendance, a $40 attendance deposit is required which will be refunded upon full completion of all 8 classes.
Referral process: We can accept referrals from physicians, nurse practitioners and midwives. MSP coverage is dependent on a participant having a specific ICD9 diagnosis, as indicated by checking a box on the referral form. Please see below to download the referral form. * Please note that patients currently suffering with acute severe depression, suicidality, psychosis, or active PTSD (remote PTSD not currently active is permissible), violent behaviour or active substance use are not appropriate referrals*
Prior to Referring Please Discuss the Following with Your Patient:
- Participants must be able to attend weekly 90–120-minute sessions for 8 weeks. As the course is billed fee-for-service through MSP, absences will forfeit the attendance deposit.
- A willingness to learn and commitment to practice is key to success in this course and to complete weekly home exercises and meditation practices
- To monitor progress, we require participants to share briefly (verbal check in) each week
- All class materials will be provided to registered participants electronically prior to the start date. An optional hard copy of the workbook is available for a fee.
